Russ' Do It Yourself Home Workshop

This is a really short post.  I guess I updated Skype (I don’t use it that often) and the next time I tried to use it (which was today, 2010-10-07) it wouldn’t start.  With my sound turned on it simply goes "bang" (or whatever your default sound is for a error) and nothing happens.  Nothing in the application event logs, nothing running in task manager…just a quick death.

After screwing around with uninstalling and reinstalling and poking around in the registry, I finally went to http://www.oldapps.com/skype.php and downloaded the 4.2.0.169 version.  I uninstalled 4.2.0.187 (again) and installed 4.2.0.169.  Worked the first time!

My system is:

• Dell M65 Precision
• Windows XP SP3 and all the latest patches
• Kaspersky anti-virus
• Lots of other s/w
